Acting Like Jesus

Many of you know that I did a play a few years back where I played Jesus. It was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I wrote an article about it, and it got published in a journal for pastors called Leadership Journal. Here's the article.

Come See Godspell!

Hey I'm in a play. It's called Godspell. If you're under the age of 35, you probably have never heard of it. It's a musical about Jesus. And I get to play Jesus. I've been listening to the music from this play/movie literally since I was about 6 years old, so getting to play this role is a dream for me.

The show opened this past Saturday to a full house, and a great reception. It runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm and Sunday afternoons at 3pm until September 26th. If you're in the Chicago area, I'd love to have you come see it. You can get tickets at http://www.provisiontheater.org/. Student tickets are $15, industry tickets are $10, children are $10. We've had children of all ages see it, and they've really enjoyed it. Also check hottix for good deals.

Last chance to see me as Jesus

Most of you already know about this, but I've been playing Jesus in a play called The Last Days of Judas Iscariot at the Gift Theatre on the northwest side of Chicago (that's me there on the left, about to be betrayed with a kiss). It ran throughout my sabbatical, and was one of the most successful shows in the history of the company. So they decided to move it to the Victory Gardens Greenhouse Theatre in Lincoln Park for a 2-month summer run. And I will be doing nine of the 20 shows: tonight, June 12 (our 2nd Opening Night) and July 3-6 and 17-20. If you haven't been able to see it but would like to, let me know. Below is a video that one of our cast member's, Lindsey Pearlman, put together as a promo piece for the move. The play is hysterically funny, profoundly moving, thought-provoking, conversation-starting, and vulgar. It would definitely be rated R were it a movie. So be warned. How can a Christian youth pastor be in a play like this? I'll blog on that later. (Note: music by Sigur Rós).
